GDPR & PWN - How Your Data is Handled
Here in the Netherlands, we’ve recently seen almost 1 million women have their personal data compromised by the data hack at Clinical Diagnostics and unfortunately, some of our City Network members were victims of this attack, me included.
Having first-hand knowledge about the sense of vulnerability that comes with having your data compromised, I wanted to update our members on our data privacy policies and upcoming improvements.
PWN Netherlands takes the handling and protection of the member data seriously.
3 Things We Currently Do:
- GDPR Compliance at both a Global and City Network level in line with the PWN Global Privacy Policy.
- Data exports with member information are restricted to board members and membership support.
- Member data is saved within the PWN InWink CRM or MS365 cloud environment.
3 Improvements We're Going To Be Implementing (effective 1 January 2026):
- PWN Netherlands will no longer allow the use of AI notetakers in our online sessions.
- Members and guests signing up for events will be asked to accept/decline a photo release form for each event they register to so that we can use event photos on our social media and for other marketing purposes.
- Mandatory 2FA password security and password keeper software for all board members and support functions that have access to member data.
3 Things You Can Do To Protect Your Own Data:
- Do not re-use passwords, especially between social media networks and personal communication services like email.
- Make sure you have an updated user profile, including opting in/out of any communications on every social media platform and website you use, including PWN.
- Check if your email address has been part of a data leak by visiting https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and following the steps listed on their site.
If you are interested in learning more about our tech stack or volunteering to support our community through website, CRM and/or app content support/development, please let me know via email and we can chat about how you can help.
