PWN Dublin Inspirational Story: Emma Jane Clarke – Using Skills to Empower Others
Emma Jane Clarke’s professional journey began like many others – driven, focused, and rising through the ranks. Her hard work led her to a senior director-level role with Sport Ireland, where she was fulfilling her passion for leadership. But something was missing.
“While I had a successful career path ahead, I felt it was time to use my skills to empower others.”
What was missing was nature. And horses – her first love. After years of pushing that part of herself aside, Emma Jane decided to stop choosing between her head and her heart. She took a bold leap and created something truly unique – a place where her full self could show up, and where others could do the same.
In 2022, she founded Martinstown Lodge, a professional development centre on her family farm in Athboy, County Meath. At the heart of the centre’s approach is a powerful connection between humans and horses – a dynamic that helps individuals and teams develop leadership, emotional intelligence, and authentic presence.
“My drive comes from a desire to share my experience, helping individuals and teams overcome self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the barriers that get in the way of fulfilling potential. I’ve been there – questioning myself, feeling like I didn’t belong. Now, I’m committed to helping others move beyond those doubts and create positive impact in their own spheres.”
And the impact is already being recognised. Since its launch, Martinstown Lodge has won several accolades, including national honours at the Equestrian Business Awards (2022) and a commendation in the RDS Sustainability Awards (2024).
Outside of the centre, Emma Jane stays active with mountain biking, kayaking, kickboxing, running – and of course, riding her beloved horse.
Why did Emma Jane join PWN Dublin?
“I’d heard so many great things about the network and was looking to expand my professional circle. Being a solopreneur can feel isolating at times – finding a community of like-minded professionals has been such a game-changer.”
Emma Jane describes PWN Dublin as a space where she can reflect, connect, and reset:
“Having a safe space to share experiences and gain perspective is invaluable. It helps me check my blind spots, see the bigger picture, and remind myself I’m not alone. I always walk away from our events feeling seen, supported, and re-energised.”
Her advice to others?
“If you're working solo or simply looking to grow – personally or professionally – PWN Dublin is a brilliant community to be part of. The diversity of backgrounds, skills, and stories is inspiring. When I’m running low on energy or clarity, I know I have a band of sisters I can reach out to. That’s powerful.”
We asked Emma Jane for her favourite quote – and she gave us two:
“Destiny doesn’t do home visits… you have to go for it yourself.”
– Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Shadow of the Wind
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
– Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
