A Passion for Mentorship
Dr. Murphy’s journey with PWN Dublin began in 2022 when he joined as a mentor for the Group Mentoring Programme. His decision to get involved stemmed from a longstanding dedication to mentoring and education. Having previously lectured and supervised in academia, he saw PWN Dublin as an opportunity to exercise his mentorship skills in a dynamic and enriching environment.
I joined to contribute to the personal and professional development of others, as well as my own,” he shares.
Encouraged by his colleague Amanda Kirk, a former PWN Dublin Board Member, he embraced the chance to support emerging leaders and has since been an active mentor for three consecutive years.
Personal and Professional Growth Through PWN Dublin
For Dr. Murphy, mentorship is a two-way street. While his role requires organisation, communication, and coordination, he highlights the deep personal impact of the experience.
“PWN Dublin has helped maintain and deepen my facilitation and leadership skills. Most importantly, it has allowed me to refine my active listening skills,” he explains.
His structured approach in the first year evolved into a more fluid and dynamic mentorship style, shaped by the diverse experiences of his mentees.
This journey has enhanced his empathy, adaptability, and agility—qualities that are as vital in leadership as they are in personal development.
Encouraging Others to Join the Network
With a strong belief in the power of professional networks, Dr. Murphy encourages others to engage with PWN Dublin.
“With any professional network, the value comes from the connections we make. PWN Dublin is a growing network with international reach, laser-focused on gender-balanced leadership, equal opportunity, and fostering a culture of learning and belonging,” he says.
