Inspirational Stories: Imelda Leahy – From Hard Work to Community-Led Growth
Growing up in Cork with two sisters, Imelda learned early on that hard work and teamwork go hand in hand. Her parents ran both a farm and a B&B – a truly all-hands-on-deck environment where everyone pitched in and got things done. That early sense of responsibility has shaped how she approaches work to this day.
A Chartered Accountant and CTA-qualified Tax Advisor, Imelda has built her career across large multinational organisations, combining technical expertise with consistency and diligence. For years, her philosophy was simple: work hard, deliver well, and the rest will follow.
Over time, some remarkable mentors helped her see things differently. Concepts from ‘What Got You Here Won’t Get You There’ and the ‘IMI’s Women in Leadership’ course encouraged her to think beyond effort alone – to focus on visibility, connection, and self-awareness as true drivers of growth.
“I became deeply interested in how women’s careers progress – and how we can support each other through shared learning and mentoring.”
“What those experiences gave me wasn’t answers, but curiosity,” she says. “I became deeply interested in how women’s careers progress – and how we can support each other through shared learning and mentoring.”
That curiosity led Imelda to PWN Dublin, where she found a community that mirrors her own values of connection, support, and growth.
As she takes on the role of Treasurer, Imelda looks forward to combining her professional skills with her passion for women’s development. “Hard work still matters,” she adds, “but progress happens through community – and that’s exactly what PWN Dublin represents.”
