Trump aux US : nouveau modèle de société.

Depuis son élection le 8 novembre dernier, Donald Trump terrifie autant qu’il fascine. Chaque matin, les Américains se réveillent au rythme du feuilleton présidentiel dont ils suivent les frasques en ligne, dans la presse, et sur les chaînes d’information. Sur Twitter @realDonaldTrump provoque et alimente la frénésie médiatique en communiquant lui-même sur son actualité quotidienne. A la fois acteur et spectateur de son propre feuilleton, il est partout, sature les écrans, et sème le chaos.

Pour faire sens de ce vertige médiatique, je vous propose de revenir ensemble sur l’élection du 8 novembre 2016, et sur les 85 premiers jours de la nouvelle équipe présidentielle.  

    • Comment expliquer l’élection de Donald Trump à la présidence américaine ? Pourquoi, alors qu’ils avaient l’opportunité d’élire une femme, les Américains ne l’ont pas fait, malgré ses qualifications ?

    • Quels sont les impacts de l’élection de Donald Trump ? Les promesses faites lors de la campagne sont-elles réalisables ?  Quelle est la marge de manœuvre du Président sur les grandes questions qui divisent l’Amérique comme l’avortement ou l’immigration ?

Aurore Portet enseigne l’histoire politique américaine à Sciences Po Lyon. Agrégée d’anglais et diplômée de l’ENS Lyon, elle forme des étudiants français et américains depuis plus de 10 ans. Lauréate des bourses Fulbright et Lurcy, elle a été chercheuse invitée à l’Université de Géorgie (UGA), et a enseigné notamment à l’Université de Virginie (UVA), à l'Université de Grenoble, et à l’IAE Lyon School of Management.

Since his election last November, Donald Trump is both fascinating and terrifying in equal measures.   Every day, Americans are waking up wondering what will happen next in the Presidential soap opera that is played out online and in the media.  Using his twitter handle @realDonaldTrump to communicate directly on his activities means he can stir-up and feed this media frenzy.  Being both spectator and actor in his own soap opera allows him to be everywhere, on all screens while spreading chaos. 

 Our monthly event will help you to understand this crazy confusion being played out before us.  We will be reviewing the election and the first 85 days of the Trump presidential team.

• How can we make sense of how and why Donald Trump was elected and with the first real opportunity to elect a woman president, why the American people chose not to?
• What are the implications of Donald Trump’s election for America and the rest of the world?  Will he be able to deliver on his election promises? What room for manoeuvre does Trump have on divisive topics such as abortion and immigration?

 Our guest speaker for the event is Aurore Portet, lecturer in American political history at Sciences Po Lyon with over 10 years of teaching French and American students.  A Fulbright and Lurcy scholar, she was guest researcher at UGA (University of Georgia) and has also taught at UVA (University of Virginia), Université de Grenoble and IAE Lyon School of Management.
